Yumiko Ichinose

Yumiko Ichinose, a staff member of Journey to the East holding an indigo cloth panel in Yame, Fukuoka Japan

Yumiko was born and raised in Yokohama and now lives in the neighbouring city of Kawasaki with her husband, daughter, and son.

From an early age, Yumiko dreamed of working in the travel industry and helping visitors discover the many wonders of Japan. After graduating from university, she joined JTB, one of Japan’s largest travel companies, where she began turning that dream into reality by promoting tours throughout Japan. Her career took a break when her husband’s work transferred the family to several parts of Japan and later to California. Having returned to the travel industry, she is delighted to once again be helping international visitors experience the best of Japan.

A passionate sports fan, Yumiko rarely misses a baseball game and attends more than 20 games each year. Yumiko loves exploring different regions of Japan, sampling local specialties and searching for traditional crafts unique to each area, such as handwoven textiles and pottery. She believes these regional treasures are what make travelling in Japan so rewarding.
